Solar Cell Phone Charger
A solar cell phone charger could be a lifesaving device
during an emergency. As necessary as cell phones have become, so has
the device that charges them, the charger. Normally, a cell phone comes
with a charger when you buy it, but the charger uses electricity and
either has to be plugged into an electric socket or into your car’s
cigarette lighter. During an emergency, these power sources can be in
short supply, and a solar cell phone charger could come in handy.
Solar cell phone chargers are powered through direct contact with sunlight;
there is no need to use electricity. During an emergency, like a hurricane,
earthquake or blizzard, often times power goes out, leaving the residents
without ways to contact family. Cell phone batteries only last so long,
and recharging them could be a problem without electricity. Solar cell
phone chargers alleviate this problem.
Sure, you may think you don’t need a solar cell phone charger
if the power goes out because you have a cigarette lighter in your car
to charge your phone. But many times during natural disasters, you may
not have access to a gas station, or the gas pumps may not work because
they require electricity. Your car needs gas to run, and it is therefore
hard to charge your cell phone without gas.
You may also scratch your head wondering if these things really happen,
and may doubt you could be in the sort of predicament that would require
a solar cell phone charger. But in Houston, the third largest city in
America, residents found themselves in the middle of a natural crisis.
Last year during hurricane Rita, residents of Houston were stuck on
freeways leading out of Houston for over 30 hours. Many cars did not
have enough gas to get out of the city, and the pumps had lost electricity.
The only form of contact that the residents of Houston had to the outside
world was through their cell phones. They couldn’t call out because
the circuits were so busy, but they could text and get news through
their cell phones from the Internet. In order to keep their cell phones
charged, those smart enough to save the gas in their cars and use a
solar cell phone charger were able to keep in touch with the outside
world, but those who didn’t eventually were out of luck when their
gas ran out.
To say the least, a solar cell phone charger is a good idea for emergency
preparedness. Even without the unnerving circumstances of a natural
disaster, a solar cell phone charger can come in handy at any time.
Not only are they convenient, but they save electricity too, which can
lower the cost of your electricity bill.
